About Site
This is just some stuff I typed up one day because well I have no life I guess. This is a little more information about why I made this site. I originally had it as part of a joke on the main page, but that sort of backfired on me. Veterans of this site will remember this being there. It has its own page now. Hey don't some inquiring minds want to know this stuff?
MAY '09 Update OMG OMG OMG haha this is mostly just ramblings, but it gives you a idea how I felt at the time and what I intended to do with this website. It gives you a perspective how I thought of the internet in 2003. I was actually thinking about this at work a lot today. It's pretty funny to be thinking about such a old abandoned website I decided to put back on the internet and that I can actually update again. We all knew about the big internet dot.com boom at the end of the century (1999-ish). I'm pretty surprised the Classic Game Room existed back then and ran streaming video!! Hell I had trouble at times with simply just streaming audio! I had gotten dial-up not too long before then. I still had dial-up at this point in time (2003) as well. It just goes to show that even the brilliance of the Classic Game Room couldn't survive the .com crash. I'm glad it is back though after all those years.
In 2003, Cable Internet still wasn't available in my area and internet video was still in its infancy imo. Sites like Launch may have existed and big websites like gamespot I presume rolled out lo quality videos, but there weren't really any true diy video hosting websites like there are today (ie. Youtube). With the population of video on the internet nowdays, I wonder just how many people would still be interested in sites like this. Where you well, had to read. I may not read books anymore, but I read a lot of different things on the internet! If you spent some time looking through my game coverages you can tell I tried to use a distinctive and engaging writing style that tried to keep things rolling. I was also more willing to put myself down than the game. So there really weren't any real overkill of this game sucks (though I do recall taking a shot at Bad Dudes lol) and I kept the profanites down to a minimum, because I didn't want that kinda stuff all over my website. It worked extremely well for the AVGN though. This was just a guy playing some games and trying to entertain people along the way.
How This Site Came About
I typed up all of the html by myself, I did use a html editor called Arachnophilia 4.0 to assist me a bit though and I've been using this editor for a long time. I found it one day on the net and well it just had everything I wanted. Are there better programs out there? Maybe, but this satisfies me so there was no need to ever look for another editor. Plus it's labeled as care ware no money is asked infact the author doesn't even want money. There should be more program developers like him. I would sure appreciate a nice graphics program that didn't nag me to lay down seventy hard earned dollars or more for their damned program. So I would recommend this editor to anyone who is interested in making a web page. It's easy to use and generates tags and has keyboard macros to save time on that kinda stuff or to be used as a reference. So you have control over basically everything. There is a newer version out there that is completely written in Java, but I've made a pretty decent page with this older version. I also would of had to download this java engine to use it and it was a pretty big file. I just generally didn't feel like doing that. I just decided to stick with this older version since I'm used to it. You can learn more about the program among other stuff at the Arachnophilia homepage. Since it was a while since I worked on a website I did have to refresh my memory on some of the finer points of web mastering. So I went to HTML Goodies to get help on that sort of thing. It's a pretty good site and helped refresh my memory on some of the finer points of making pages.
It took me a pretty long while to come up with what I think is generally the final design. Originally I whipped together some odd mismatching colors and well worked on some of the parts on my site (mostly writing text) but didn't incorporate it into the actual web page. After a little while I was upset that I couldn't think of a name for it (I wanted something more than *my name's* site). So without a title or theme for this site at the time I couldn't really come up with anything to do with it. I just sat there staring at the screen for a good few hours hoping maybe something would magically happen to save me or I'll stumble upon elightenment or things like that, but nothing ever happened. I then just went to bed accomplishing nothing. What a way to waste a evening eh? Also the fact that the colors were so bloody ugly and just random, I stopped working on it for like a month. Once I started thinking along the lines of castles and kingdoms and stuff like that, things sorta just finally started to work out. Also I figured using my alias on the internet and generally second name (Cyrus) would be acceptable to use. I then slapped the word 'Lord' in front of Cyrus to increase the coolness factor and well I have a website name that I can almost be proud of. I was always fascinated by the medieval times and the section on videogames often lends itself to the use of castles in games.
So that's how I came up with my name since I know that question was burning inside you all. You were just waiting for the chance to ask it anxiously. Hey don't deny it! I decided to go with that and I got rid of all the crappy random colors (oh yes you would of laughed and laughed. I sure did as well as pointing at the patheticness of them) and replaced them with the castle graphic and more matching color that you now see. I like this tan background that I came up with. I didn't want to use the cliched black background or just your standard and boring white background. I was also looking for something that wouldn't be really distracting or hard to read the text, but honestly I could easily spend hours just messing with the colors and stuff and then realize that I didn't accomplish anything. The hardest part of the website for me is not updating it, but starting it off in my opinion. I usually never had a problem updating my old site if I got on the computer, but the actual construction and theme was always a tough thing for me. I often could never be satisfied with something. Hey I originally had frames on this site, but then they just seemed to be a waste of space. I then got rid of them. Frames don't seem to be too well liked so it was probably for the better.
Why This Site Came to Be
I originally made a Simpsons website years ago to test my html skills as I said. It was a pretty decent page for first timers and I liked my theme. I dealt with some of the lesser respected Simpsons characters. The structure and page does look incredibly dated now though and it's still floating around the net. Actually it was a pretty crappy attempt for first timers, but hey I made it a while ago. I also messed up when I added a update. It says I updated it in 2002, I really didn't. It's a typo and a really bad one at that. Oh well and none of the sound files work anymore either because I used Xoom at the time as a dump site since they gave unlimited space and now they don't exist anymore. I bet it's probably because of me. So there really isn't much there now at the site, but I'll just let it kick around for laughs. You could probably find it in a search engine, I didn't pay anything to put it up anyways.
I always wanted to make another website, but lack of time and mainly computer usage always seemed to be problems for me. This year I got my own computer and started entertaining the possibility of starting a page again, but it was all just thought and no actual action. In September 2002 I started trying to actually put my thoughts into action after generally being disgusted with what I had been doing on the internet. It just seemed extremely boring and not many people I liked chatting with were on anymore. My favorite sites at the time just seemed to suck, so I figured I would try to do something productive with my time. I was so used to staying up to such late hours and well figured this would be a exellent time to work on my webpage. Yeah I do it generally at the expense of sleep, but I don't need to sleep like eight or ten hours anyways. Well if I was going to make a site I at first wanted it to be more of a personal site, but I also wanted it to incorporate everything I was into among other random crap. This appeared as quite a challenging task, so after awhile I gave up and figured it would be better to try and have one good section than several extremely awful ones. Another thing I realized and probably most people realize is that there is basically already a web page (or more even) for like everything. I didn't want to just copy what's already out there because what would be the point in doing that? I tried to incorporate my own ideas and styles into this webpage, but so many ideas have been already done that it's sometimes hard just coming up with something truly original. So I plan on putting some worthwhile links in my links section and you can check them out if you'd like.
Where this Site is Being Hosted
I originally was planning on hosting this site on a real server and not a free one. After that event though I cancelled my payment because I was in no condition to work on the site. I really don't know if I am now and I don't know if I'll pay to host this site in the future. Maybe I will if the future becomes more certain. Well I probably won't make anymore structural changes, so this is the way it's generally going to look. Of course if you would like to make a better layout (with a similiar color scheme) for me go right ahead! Otherwise you better damn like this one or else I guess I'm really really screwed. If you are currently reading still I would actually give you like a high five or something because this probably wasn't too entertaining, but more so informative. I did try to crack a couple jokes though and now you can go check out my actual content!
